Air Pumps

As oxygen is the essence of life it is no different in your garden pond. Most ponds will have adequate O2 levels all year round. However, if your pond has an excessive oxygen demand (either from fish or organic matter) you may require an air pump to maintain the oxygen levels in the pond. Air pumps are prefered to pure oxygen as they will not over saturate the pond with O2, which quickly becomes toxic to fish at high levels.

Aeration

Air pumps can also be used to maintain O2 in reed bed systems, which in turn creates a healthy treatment system for domestic waste water. In a similar fashion an air pump can double up from water aeration to biofilter aeration in your ponds filtration system. This will help maintain healthy bacteria levels in your filter.
